Steve, care to shed some light on this? I'm sure you already know all about it. :)

TV time [Sep. 26th, 2007|10:43 pm]
Yes, that's right, it's another entry devoted to TV shows. I know I should be using my LJ posts for more substantial things, so, uh...umm...

- Iran's president is evil and crazy. And for the life of me, I can't pronounce his last name.
- Subway fares may be going up. Someone should do something about that.
- This heat is annoying as hell. I want autumn ASAP.

Now that that's out of the way, on to TV. The Heroes premiere was entertaining, if a little uneven. I was hoping they'd scale back the whole multiple-storylines thing, as it made the show difficult to keep up with last season. I felt like the writers were always trying to pack too much in, rather than just taking a great concept and keeping it simple. Still, Hiro's story looks like it's going to be fun. Claire and dad in CA is already looking a bit tired, and it's unfortunate that they killed off George Takei so suddenly. They could have at least had him say his trademark "Oh my" while falling from the building.

Overall, though, there is some promise. It still has the same "feel" as last year, so that gives me hope.

I watched the premiere of Bionic Woman tonight, and my God was it awful. I knew that was going to be a possibility, but I didn't think that the dialogue would be that cheesy. Or the storyline so flooded with crappy TV cliches. Or the special effects to look so much like a bad episode of Xena: Warrior Princess. Anyway, NBC invested a lot of money in it, so I'm sure they'll give it a chance to turn around. Then again, they gave Studio 60 a chance last year, and it just got worse and worse.

Well, that's it for my incredibly relevant updates. I should have a MySpace blog up by tomorrow, to fill you all in on the excitement of my life. G'nite!

P.S. I didn't watch that Journeyman show, Steve, as it reminded me too much of Quantum Leap, which I liked, but which I didn't really feel like watching again with some Anthony-Michael-Hall-looking dude...

Theatre update [Jul. 25th, 2007|01:26 pm]
Hi everybody!

Here's some detailed info on what I'm doing theatrically these days...

1.) First, the performance information for Die Hard: The Puppet Musical:

Preview performance:
Monday, July 30th, 7:30 pm
Collective Unconscious, 297 Church St. (south of Canal St.)
Tickets are $15
We're doing the first 30 minutes of our show, and two other short plays will be performing that night. It's an evening of experimental theatre, with gratuitous puppet violence. :)

Full performance:
Monday, August 20th through Thursday, August 23rd, 8pm
Nicu's Spoon Theatre, 38 W. 38th St. (just south of Bryant Park, between 5th and 6th Avenues)
Tickets are $20, which includes a free beer! Wahoo!
We'll be doing the full show, with a cast list that differs slightly from the July 30th show, for logistical reasons. I'll keep you all updated on that one.

Festival performance:
New York Musical Theatre Festival
September 22nd and 23rd
Times, locations and ticket prices TBD.

I've only been to three rehearsals so far, but I can already tell this is going to be a GREAT show. I'm having a wonderful time, and the people in charge of this thing are absolutely brilliant. Word of warning, however: this is NOT a family show, with lots of strong language and content. Of course, for some of you, that may be a bonus. :)

2.) Because of the time commitment I made to Die Hard, I had to drop out of the improv tournament that I had been cast in. It's unfortunate, but there was no getting around it, much as I tried. Hopefully I will get a chance to participate in that in the future.

3.) While I have had to take a hiatus from I Got Your Monkey, NY's coolest sketch comedy troupe, I hope to continue writing sketches for them until I can return. We plan on having performances in August and September, and I would encourage you to sign up for our mailing list to keep in the loop about that. To do so, simply send an email to igot_yourmonkey@yahoo.com, and put "Please put me on your mailing list!" as the subject header and in the body of the email, with your full name. That way we can contact you whenever we have anything new and awesome going on. It's for your own comedic good.

That's about it. Hope you all are having fun...talk to you soon!

- Vinny

So much to post about... [Jul. 10th, 2007|11:03 pm]
...so little time. I'll summarize and say that I've been auditioning like crazy lately, and it's actually been going rather well. I still have a MySpace blog to write about all that.

Money's been very tight this summer, forcing me to consider a return to the world of...DUM-DUM-DUM...office temping. But I swear I won't let myself get Fiserved again ("Ohhhh, you got Fiserved!")

The sketch troupe had a show last Friday, which was much fun. There was nakedness involved. But those details will also have to wait for the MySpace blog.

I was skimming through my friends' LJ blogs and briefly read Steve's Transformers review. I saw it the other week and pretty much have to agree with his assessment, as I often do. I very much enjoyed the first half of the flick, but then it just started to get ridiculous when John Turturro showed up (I love the guy, but what the hell was he thinking with that character?), and by the end they were just shoe-horning action scenes in (of course I was expecting gratuitous action, but in this case it felt almost like an afterthought, which I found very surprising), with a very abrupt ending to the whole thing. Overall though, it was very entertaining and much better than I expected.

Also, in a sign of just how incredibly out of the loop I am, I was reading one of Elyn's surveys, and got to the sentence "...that's why [Steve and I] are dating." I nearly fell out of my chair. I had to read Steve's survey to confirm it. :) In any case, my warmest congratulations to you guys. It was awesome news to hear, and I hope you two are just having a big crazy happy fun time.

As for my own situation, there's a girl in my acting class that I'm...hopeful about. Wish me luck. <:) I head home this weekend to see Ben Folds and John Mayer in concert with my siblings. Should be good times. Hope you all are well and have lots of readily available AC. Talk to you soon!

Another Lost observation... [May. 23rd, 2007|11:41 pm]
So the cliffhanger at the end is trying to make us believe that Jack's flashback is actually from the future...but...there was a scene in the hospital, and at the pharmacy, where he refers to his dad as if he's still alive. What, pray tell, is up with that??

And only a bajillion more months until we find out...

Lost, I shall be lost without you... [May. 23rd, 2007|10:59 pm]
Wow, what a mind-f%&k. Instead of a flashback, we got a flash-forward...I think...?

Dear Lord.

Poor Charlie. Unless Desmond manages some miraculous rescue, I guess that's it for him. What a heroic way to go though, and that was nice the way they worked the Sharpie back into it.

Steve was right about Locke. Go figure. :)

Damn, Walt grew up big-time in just one year!

Both Naomi and the Hatch Hottie got offed. Why must they keep doing that??

I'm not quite sure what Eyepatch's nationality is, but I think it must be Russian, because he's gotta be related to Rasputin.

Hurley saves the day with his Roger WorkMan microbus. How weird was that?

Tom "Mr. Smiley" is dead. Makes sense that Sawyer got him, though.

I find Alexandra both goofy-looking and cute. I'm not sure why.

The satellite phone looks like an iPhone. Sigh.

Sayid killed a guy with his feet. I guess that's reasonably badass.

If Rousseau's message has been playing for 16 years, how had the Others not detected it by now? If so, why didn't they turn it off?

What a cliffhanger. Damn. Wow. And apparently we're now officially halfway through the series. I'm gonna be thinking about this one for a long time...

For once... [May. 22nd, 2007|11:41 am]
...I gotta disagree with Steve here. I just watched the Heroes finale, and I am sooooo glad I saw it online, because there were so many great rewindable parts, especially at the end. Yeah, I was disappointed in how easily Sylar got stabbed, but other than that, I thought it was fantastic. Nikki finally got to do something semi-important (I rewinded her clubbing Sylar's ass multiple times), Shaft made an interesting guest appearance (was he the one that Molly is afraid to look for?), we found out Bennet's first name, Micah got to help out, we had a great "action movie" quote ("Haven't I killed you before?" "Didn't take."), and the resolution with Peter and Nathan was fantastic. I had been watching the episode, thinking, "Man, Nathan's barely used his powers at all," and then, voila, he saves the day in surprising fashion. The fact that these two often-combative brothers got to come together at the end was great. I really gotta applaud the writers for that one. And the special effects on the explosion were fantastic.

Then, on top of it all, we got a preview for next season. I loved Hiro's little expletive there, and the fact that we FINALLY GOT TO SEE THE ECLIPSE! How ballsy of the writers to set up this eclipse as the friggin' logo for the show, then not even HINT at its significance until the very last moment of the season. Well done, guys. Well done.

So it seems we're going to be seeing the origin of all these powers next season. I imagine that Linderman, the elder Petrellis, Mohinder's dad, Shaft, Hiro's dad, Thompson, and maybe even Bennet -- err, Noah, and the Invisible Scottish Dude are all going to be involved. I can hardly wait!

Pretty much repeating everything Steve said, but hey, I gotta be me... [May. 17th, 2007|09:01 am]
More TV updates...

Heroes was good this week, if a bit uneven. They sometimes have problems keeping all those multiple storylines going, but they're still leading into the finale quite nicely. Micah's ability was used in an interesting and significant way, some semi-major characters were bumped off, there's a very interesting cliffhanger with the whole Bennet-Mohinder-Molly faceoff, and of course, Sylar getting Ted's power. All he needs now is Claire, and he'll be able to carry out his plan. I imagine he won't be able to, get blown up in a safe area, and bang, finale, but we'll see.

The moments that didn't work were Hiro being trained by his Dad '80s-movie style, i.e. they go into a room, and a couple scenes later, Hiro's an expert swordsman. That was silly. Also, Nikki overcoming Jessica. That whole storyline wasn't working anyway, but that was a cheesy way to resolve it. Oh well. Still good stuff.

Funny moment: when Bennet is yelling at Parkman to get them on the elevator, Parkman's reaction was perfect: "All right, a simple 'no' would have sufficed." And last week, when Claire found out about her dad's ability. "You can fly?" Nathan shrugs. Claire looks down, smiles. "Cool."

On to Lost...

Terrific episode. We've been hearing about Charlie's imminent death for awhile now, and they could have fumbled it, just killed him off as a quick episode-ending moment, a la Locke, but this was extremely well-handled. Using the flashbacks as his "greatest hits" was very creative, seeing his willingness to sacrifice himself for Claire gives his (supposed) death meaning, and then of course, the scene on the boat got me choked up, definitely. As an actor, I could really admire the way that little hobbit played the scene: remorseful, contemplative, but not blubbering. He was trying to be strong, but the enormity of what he was about to do was definitely present. I felt for him.

And now he's in a cool new hatch with ANOTHER blonde hottie. Where is this island, Sweden??

Jack is annoying. And somehow he grew a lot more hair since the last episode. *shrug*

Bernard and Rose are back! And still bickering.

Carl is back! Didn't think we'd see him for a while.

Cool resolution with the cable on the beach. At first when Sayid said he knew where the station is, I thought he was referring to the four-toed statue, but I guess we'll still have to wait on that one. :)

Charlie's goodbye with Hurley was heartbreaking. The whole episode, really, was like a memorial service. I definitely needed that, after the horrible shock of seeing Locke get shot (still on the fence about whether he survives). Claire was being awfully reserved towards him, but she's cute enough that I can cut her some slack.

Moments that didn't work: the "DS" ring is a treasured family heirloom? Come on. It looks like it came out of a Cracker Jack box. Also, the mugger scene. Talk about chocked full of cliches. The robber is dressed in black, holding a knife, then runs away when hit by a guitar. Then the speech the chick gives him is hokey as well. But it came right after that rain scene where Desmond ran into him during his flashback episode, so that was neat.

Hmm, what else. Shooting the dynamite to blow up the camp should be interesting. I'm hoping Sayid FINALLY gets to kick some major ass, Bernard's probably toast, maybe even Jin, unfortunately. Will Jack be able to call the boat? I dunno, but I was surprised to find out that Naomi was British, I had thought she was Australian at first. Weird how the plane flew out of Sydney, and there's only one Australian on the whole show. Guess they won't be going to Outback for bloomin' onions after they finally get rescued.

All right, two-hour finale next week. Woo hoo! Bring it on!

Ugh [May. 9th, 2007|11:02 pm]
I am in some serious shock right now. I don't even know what to say. Tonight's episode of Lost was so going so good, it was so terrific that it even managed to redeem the ridiculous finding-a-van-in-the-jungle episode, I mean there was the whole awesome Ben flashback, which caught me totally by surprise, and we were starting to get some answers, and the whole "Roger Work Man" thing was really neat, and this "Jacob" character, who may or may not be the smoke monster, was interesting, and Ben the Kid running into someone who may have been Richard's dad, and the "Hostiles," and then the concept that Ben is the last living Dharma dude, and that they gassed and killed the original Dharmas, and the mass grave, and the whole thing was so amazingly intense and cool...

...

...

...and then Locke fucking DIES??????????????? Oh my dear sweet God, did that piss me off. And even though I know that nothing in TV Land is ever final, he looked pretty effing dead to me, and that just makes me irritated as hell. God damn it. God God damn it.

In other news, Heroes was very good this week. Sylar kills his mom (who was Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors, by the way) just in time for Mother's Day. Yikes.

Geez man, they killed Locke. That...just...SUCKS.

TV report, plus other stuff [May. 4th, 2007|11:44 am]
Here goes...

Last Monday's Heroes was easily the best episode of the season, and one of the best episodes of anything I've seen in quite a while. It was brilliant to set us up all season with perceptions of these characters, then suddenly fast-forward them five years, insert a horribly traumatic experience, and see how substantially they changed. Peter is now a badass, Nikki's been "cured" by the loss of her husband and son, Hiro was completely tranformed by the loss of Ando, Parkman somehow became a villain (not sure how, but I was surprised by how well he played the role), Bennet was harboring "special" people (including Parkman's son -- which should make for some great foreshadowing -- and this new "Molly Walker" character), and of course, Sylar is still on the loose. I wish we could have actually seen Hiro and Peter fighting those security guards, as well as Sylar and Peter's fight. Still, I was caught by surprise by Sylar's emergence, didn't realize until now the true importance of "saving the cheerleader" (i.e. if Sylar got her powers, he would be practically invincible), and I think it's going to be an interesting prophecy to see how Hiro manages to kill Sylar, if indeed he does. Good times.

As for Lost, another great episode. Yes, Steve and Lynda both mentioned how predictable it was, and I agree, but I still think it flowed very well. Seeing the Black Rock again was nice. The whole deal with the Magic Box Turtle is still pretty shaky, but I guess that really was Locke's dad, and not some smoke-monster-esque illusion. I don't believe the whole "Hell" theory, plausible as it might sound. I just think that Dharma managed to create a plane with dead passengers to throw rescuers off the scent, somehow. Why did Rousseau go to the ship for explosives? For some more booby traps, is my guess, but it would be cool if there was some more specific purpose. I like the tension that is building around the whole Desmond-Charlie-Hurley-Sayid vs. Jack-and-Juliet thing. What a dumbass Kate was, telling him. Christ. And apparently Jack and Juliet are sharing some secret. Hmm. And now Sawyer has Juliet's recordings. It will be interesting to see how that plays out. Of course, I didn't see the promo for next week, so the suspense is greater for me.

Anything else? Hmm. How about the whole deal with Cindy the Stewardess and her Children of the Corn friends? Did Ben brainwash them? They need a flashback episode all their own, because they are seriously creeping me out. Oh yeah, and when they set up camp, how did they manage to find a stone pillar to tie Locke's dad to? That was convenient. Did they have a campsite with a pillar set up for occassions just like this? *shrug*

So yeah, that was some good TV right there. Of course, I always have to watch it online, because I'm too busy to sit down in front of a television. I thought things would get better for me now that April (a.k.a. an awful, terrible month that needs to be permanently deleted from my memory) is finally, mercifully over, but the madness continues. My sketch troupe is rehearsing for a show later this month, and while I'm happy to have written the whole thing, I'm just barely keeping up with all that needs to be done to stage it. In fact, I should be working right now on the short musical number I'm trying to write for it, but of course, I'm not. Go figure.

I also auditioned for an acting class that starts next month. It went well, and I was happy about that. It felt good to be back on stage doing something dramatic; as much as I enjoy comedy, variety is definitely needed. This class should provide it.

Also, I've had family in town, been trying to juggle jobs, and, well, still been working on getting past Elena. It's stupid, but...I dunno, I guess that's a topic for another blog.

Hope you all are well. Talk to you soon...

(no subject) [Apr. 17th, 2007|11:42 pm]
Hey Steve, I'm glad you got the Weird Al CD, I loved it.

Did you say that Elyn is fine? I didn't think they would have a diagnosis that fast. I may be jumping the gun, but I am praying that she got a clean bill of health.

In the meantime, I am drunk and confused. I am spilling my foolish emotions out to anyone who dares to read. First of all, twin tragedies happened these past few days: the horrific shooting at Virginia Tech, and the assault, rape and torture of a friend of a friend of mine. Awful, horrible, evil, unspeakable stuff. I pray for all affected, while acknowledging that these terrible scars will never, ever truly heal.

And also, I got dumped. The girl I had been dating for about a week is moving to Kansas City, so she called me today and broke it off. What timing. I'm trying to put things in perspective, trying to acknowledge that terrible, irrevocable things have happened in the world, that families have been forever ruined, but being the SELFISH PIECE OF SHIT that I am, I am bitter about being dumped. What an asshole I am. Seriously Tess, come and throat-kick me right now, because I need I big tall glass of Shut-the-Hell-Up-and-Get-Over-Yourself.

Ah, what fragile beings we are. Pray for those destroyed families in the first two tragedies I mentioned. As for me, I'm just going to have to fucking deal...

Two entries in one day? The hell you say! [Apr. 12th, 2007|04:01 pm]
So I wrote my obligatory Lost entry, and now for a general update, for those of you that don't tune in to my intermittent MySpace blogs...

My theatre endeavors have been going great. I am writing sketches like mad for I Got Your Monkey, and we're in the process of piecing together a 30-minute show to present to local theaters. I'm also getting to do more graphic and web design than in the past, and since I'm also directing the sketches I write, it seems my artistic abilities are now being fully utilized. That's a very good feeling.

What's not a good feeling is how much I've been working these days. While it's not a lot of hours, it's a lot of spread-out, random, exhausting hours. It seems I finally need to consolidate. My good friend Daryl (who played Judas in Godspell) moved to NY last month, joined my sketch troupe, and is now working at Bubba Gump's restaurant in Times Square. He's trying to get me job there. Even though I've never done food service before, the money and the hours would be more in line with my lifestyle right now. If I end up there, I can quit a few of my other jobs, and only have two. How crazy would that be??

Also, I'm seeing someone now. A girl from church named Elena. After nearly two years of singleness, I've met someone who I really click with. Our third date was at the Natural History Museum, and over the course of seven hours, we saw EVERYTHING the place had to offer, and enjoyed it immensely. The only fly in the ointment is that she's spent her whole life in the NYC area (having grown up in NJ), and feels burned out by the city. She's considering a change of scenery, and I only hope I can show her how wonderful this town can be before it's too late. It's still early, but I like her a lot, and I hope I can get her to stay. Wish me luck.

Hope all is well with all of you...

I wish I could quote song lyrics like you guys... [Apr. 12th, 2007|03:22 pm]
Holy great goddamn googly moogly, what an awesome Lost episode! Two weeks in a row of brilliance, and this one in particular was full of ass-kicking goodness.

Once again, I must employ the V.B.L. for this...

- Comedy moment: Sawyer sees Hurley, Charlie and Aaron, says, "Three men and a baby," Charlie and Hurley look at each other, confused, then Sawyer explains, "I counted Hugo twice." Awesome.

- Juliette in a tank top. I agree with Steve's evaluation that "she's hot in a weird sort of way." She seems like she may be older, and that colagen-lip-smirk thing is a little odd, but overall, wowzers.

- I'm starting to notice that Sayid speaks exclusively in declarative statements. Even when he asks a question, he still sounds like he's verbally assaulting you. That is reason #549,652 why Sayid rocks. He really needs to get the opportunity to beat some people down SOON.

- It was chilling to see the plane crash again. That's one of the most amazing effects shots they've done on the show so far (the best being last week, when the smoke monster ran into the fence)

- Sayid and Sawyer as the "moral police." They make an interesting team. I still feel like the Losties are going to split into two camps, with Sawyer and Sayid leading the more militant one.

- I'm glad that I'm watching these episodes online now; that means I never get to see the promos for next week, and so when I get to said next week, the sense of newness is greater. I like it, even though Lyndazon has already clued me in to the arrival of the Penny Posse in episodes to come.

- If they had killed off Claire, I would have been insanely pissed. Thank God.

- Kate looking at Sun when Juliette talked about pregnant women dying. Yikes.

- When the Others were running out to witness the plane crash, did Ethan climb out of a doghouse? What was that?

- Juliette was banging Goodwin. The interconnectedness continues.

- Juliette's song, "Downtown"; that wasn't the same song that Desmond played in the hatch, right? Was it used elsewhere in the show?

- Juliette's flashback was great. We get a few more scraps about what the Others are up to, find out a little more about why Claire was kidnapped, and discover just how desperate Juliette is to get off the island. When you want something that badly, you're bound to get ruthless (case in point: "They took my boy!!").

- Kate is one romantically-confused little hardbody. Oh well.

- Neither Sayid nor Hurley trust Juliette. Interesting, considering that they each lost a blonde hottie last season.

- Ben and Juliette's interactions are getting more interesting all the time. They're such fascinating, deep, mysterious characters. Their motivations are murky as hell, and what's really interesting is, I think Juliette may actually be more dangerous than Ben, because even Ben underestimates her.

- Juliette's confrontation of Sayid and Sawyer shows just how devious she can be, when she puts her mind to it.

- She's got Jack wrapped completely around her little finger. What a tool he's turning out to be.

- Jack telling Sayid that Juliette's "under his protection." Is he seriously challenging Sayid?? That is NOT a clever idea, Doc. Haven't you noticed that Sayid's facial expression usually matches that of a tiger sizing up its prey?

- I can't wait to find out what Locke's up to.

- Sawyer's got it in his mind that Jack caved in to the Others in order to selfishly get his ass off the island. Jack's credibility is crumbling. This will make it easier for Sawyer to sway people to his side. Lord of the Flies, anyone?

- BOOOOOOSH report: That was an A+ boooosh moment at the end there. I know Steve saw it coming, but I got suckered. The flashbacks got me feeling sympathetic for her, and then bam, switcheroo. Of course, she may be manipulating Ben just as much as she's manipulating the Losties. She's got her own agenda: she wants off the island, and whomever she has to screw over to do it, she will. Her only real loyalty is to herself, and to her sister.

- Good to see Eyepatch and the radio shed again. This is the nice thing about a flashback-driven show: dead characters never really stay dead.

Whew, that was an awful lot of bullets there. I'm sure there's stuff I'm still forgetting, but suffice it say, I REALLY enjoyed that episode. It seems that the season is finishing up strong...

So busy, so incredibly busy... [Apr. 6th, 2007|01:26 am]
...but I wouldn't have it any other way.

Just got done watching Lost online, and would like to comment briefly on the last two eps...

LAST WEEK: NIKKI AND PAOLO

What an odd episode. I felt like the writers were caving in to fan pressure to kill them off. A recent magazine interview with the show's creators stated that while they understood the fans hated those two, that there was an upcoming "Nikki and Paolo flashback episode" that would make us understand why they were there. Mission severely un-accomplished on that one. The episode was meaningless, and while it was interesting to see all the flashbacks of seasons past, it seemed sacriligious that they would try to shoehorn those two into a timeline that we held so dear.

I may not be making much sense, but I don't have time to edit. I apologize.

In any case, I never hated Nikki and Paolo, but they did feel like a waste of space the whole time. I expected the flashbacks to give them significance, but that was not the case. The silly subplot with the diamonds only made them less likeable, and while I enjoyed Nikki's brief appearance as a stripper, having Billy Dee Williams in there was even worse than Cheech as Hurley's dad.

In the end, they were buried alive, and that just creeped me out. I know others were cheering for it, but it just gave me the willies. In the end, their tale proved sad and unnecessary. Overall, they were just ridiculous and boring. Another blonde hottie bites the dust. I continue to fear for Juliet and Claire.

THIS WEEK: KATE'S STORY

Wow, what a goddamn great episode. I loved it for lots of reasons, which means, of course, another patented Vinny Bulleted List(tm)!

- Sawyer's woman meeting up with Kate.
- Interesting side story with Sawyer's "hearts and minds" campaign. The writers have figured out that his character inspires a lot of comedy.
- Juliet kicking Kate's ass in the beginning. Who knew she could do THAT?? Well, probably Steve, because he knows damn-near everything.
- Sawyer's line to Hurley: "You are rotund and annoying."
- Kate and Juliet locked together, paralleling her partnership with Sawyer's woman. The dynamic between the two of them was great, and of course, I enjoyed them getting wet, getting muddy, and getting in a catfight. Hey, I can be a shallow male with the best of them.
- The exchange between Kate and her mom. Really powerful, especially at the end. Kinda unnerving, though, how it was almost advocating battered wives who stay with their abusive asshole husbands.
- The smoke monster!!!!! That clicking noise, the T-rex stomping, and now flashes of light! Loved it loved it loved it.
- Incorporating the fence with the smoke monster. I didn't expect that at all, it caught me totally by surprise (yeah yeah, Steve, rub it in), and I loved the special effect when the monster crashed into the fence. Incredibly clever.
- Locke leaving with the Others. My God, he just gets more mysterious every damn week!
- The brewing love triangle with Kate, Jack and Juliet. The look on Kate's face was priceless when Jack asked about Juliet.
- Another feel-good music montage. Hadn't had one of those in a while. It was almost as if Hurley's Walkman was working again.
- Sun still hates Sawyer. I'm glad that wasn't resolved so easily.
- Sawyer as leader? Wow, that was pretty cool. I like it when a side story that seems like it's just there to lighten the mood actually ends up being important.
- So when Jack returns, is there going to be a power struggle? Interesting.
- The "boooosh" moment was moderately good. Juliet's going to the camp, and we still don't know where her loyalties lie. Jack could be putting a lot of lives at risk, and Sayid is on the lookout for it. Good for him. Sawyer will be distrustful of her as well, and this could heighten the power struggle. The Losties could end up getting divided into camps: ones loyal to Jack, and ones that don't trust Juliet.

I didn't see next week's preview, as usual, but I'm starting to think that's a good thing. In any case, I really enjoyed this episode, and hope it sets the tone for what remains of the season.

G'nite!

Lost is finding its way [Mar. 21st, 2007|11:27 pm]
Pretty cool episode, I must say. As LyndaTesSteve mentioned, there was lots of burnination going on (Ben had a terrific deadpan burn on Locke, but alas, I can't remember what it was), as well as some other things:

- I turned to my roommate halfway through and said, "I think Locke's dad is the guy who conned Sawyer's mom and inspired Sawyer to become Sawyer." So I raise my glass to you, Steve.

- I liked the concept behind Locke's accident, although it happened so abruptly that it did feel like a bit of a letdown. We waited so long to find out how he got injured, and then bang, it was over. Still though, there was some depth of reason behind it, and I can appreciate that.

- I loved when Locke opened the hatch on the submarine, and the camera was looking up at him looking down into it. What great symbolism, especially considering that he blew it up, just like he did the original hatch. And the barn. Damn, this guy's the frickin' Unabomber.

- Yes, magic box made me think of Magic Turtle. I bet you anything that someday, one of the episodes will have a fleeting reference to a magic turtle. I'm almost certain that Sawyer will make a smartass remark, and a magic turtle will be involved.

- As much as we all want Paolo and Nikki to die next week, I've heard that they will be featured in a flashback episode, so I guess that won't be happening yet. Besides, you know how those promo bastards are: I bet some anonymous character will die, and a subplot will revolve around covering it up, and even if Sun slaps Sawyer, it's just going to be a minor incident. The more dramatic the promo, the milder the actual story.

- My roommate pointed out just how slick Ben is, when he said to Jack, "As soon as you leave the island, I'll let your friends go." Voila, Jack doesn't get to leave, so his friends will not be let go, right after Juliet said (ignorantly), "Thank you for keeping your word." Nurn nurn nurrrrn! So now Kate has been captured AGAIN, Sayid will get tortured by Ben, Ben will try to make Locke his ally, Jack will continue to be sappy and confused, and Rousseau will stalk her daughter from the shadows. Aaah, good times.

- Boooosh Report: I hyped myself up for a good booosh, which was probably a mistake. I was so excited to see what was in the magic box, and then really wasn't all that shocked when Locke's dad was inside. In fact, Steve is probably right: the magic box is the smoke monster, and so it just manifested as Locke's dad, so that he can pretend to get revenge, and Ben will use this to manipulate Locke somehow. Or something. I dunno.

But yes, good. Once again, can't wait for next week!

My own little Lost entry [Mar. 15th, 2007|09:31 pm]
Even though Tess and Steve (hmm, "Tess" and "Steve" have almost the same letters in them; if only you guys were a celebrity couple, then you could be "Tessteve") already posted about Lost, I feel obliged to post as well, since I only just watched it online (ah, the theatre rehearsal life).

First of all, the downside to watching online is that, for some stupid reason, they don't have the preview for next week. So I only have a vague, text-based idea of what is happening in the next episode. Oh well.

But more important, this episode was great!! Thank GOD!! I was equal parts happy and relieved. Why?

1.) Mmmmmmmmm Claire.

2.) Two mysteries that were actually interesting: Desmond's continuing quest to save Charlie, and the "sonic gateposts."

3.) An ongoing adventure (the trip to the barracks) that actually seems to have some purpose to it.

4.) Character development and conflict: Locke has fucked up a couple times now, but with that C4 in his pack, perhaps he learned more from that chess computer than he's letting on. However, Kate and Sayid are not happy with him right now, and tension is definitely building among them.

5.) Mmmmmmmm Claire.

6.) Action: Eyepatch getting fried by the gateposts.

7.) A human-interest story I can actually care about: Claire trying to catch the birds in order to send a message. No ridiculous jumpstarted trucks in this one.

8.) An almost-revealed mystery: Eyepatch was about to say something about Locke, when he was cut off. As much as that killed me, it was still pretty cool.

9.) Mmmmmmmm Goth Claire.

10.) Flashbacks that weren't stupid, that actually had some real meaning to them, that didn't have cheesy C-list celebrity cameos, and that gave real depth to a character that we didn't know that much about before.

11.) Mmmmmmm Claire and Sun.

12.) A "shocking discovery" that, even though most of us had already theorized about it (I can't remember whether Steve told me about Claire and Jack, or whether I figured it out myself, but I still felt pretty smug when they revealed it), most casual viewers might have been caught by surprise. Rousseau and Alex? Duh! Jack and Claire? Now that had some real-live "Whoaaa" potential there.

13.) Mmmmmmm Cl-- okay, I'll stop. But what can I say, she's cute as hell, and we hadn't been seeing much of her lately.

14.) An expanding epic. The Others have a submarine, but they're now cut off from the outside world. What will they do?

15.) A little comedy. Sawyer was about to call Claire "Barbie," but was cut off by Sun. Having to say her actual name, he looked like he had just eaten something sour.

16.) And finally, a good "boooosh" moment. What's a booosh moment? That's when you get a good cliffhanger/surprise at the end, then the Lost logo appears, and you hear the "booosh" noise. If done right, it can send chills right up your spine, and make you instantly start jonesing for next Wednesday. For the first two seasons, we were getting great booosh moments (and I should know, since I saw Season 1), but this season, not so much. However, after seeing the barracks (which had been in Juliet's flashback earlier in the season), and seeing Jack throw a football to Tom, and then seeing Kate's reaction, I thought that was pretty boooshy right there.

And yes, Steve, you're right, Jack did come off kinda douchy in that scene. A douche and a booosh. Kismet right there.

Sorry for the rambling. I was just really really really happy to get a quality episode, since the last few had been terrible, and now Heroes is on hiatus AGAIN. Aaarrrrrgh.

In the meantime, my sketch show is chugging along, and we should be ready to rock and roll on the 30th. Wish us many broken legs!

Wow, busy [Mar. 8th, 2007|09:30 pm]
No sooner did I step off the plane from Florida then I was awash with responsibilities. Three different bosses are trying to coordinate work schedules, I'm preparing to start a tech job at a small theater next month, and now, I've been cast in a sketch comedy troupe that performs at the end of this month. It's a small group, brand new, and we're not getting paid, but it's a start, and I'm really happy about it. In fact, I wrote two sketches that will be used in the show. I actually wrote three, but the third was too long for the show.

What was that third skit about, you ask? Why, it was called "Company Policy," and when I originally wrote it last year, it involved Fiserv, spandex, and Tess firing people left and right. All I had to do this time around was change a few names and, voila, it's got new life. Hopefully next month we'll be able to get it on stage.

All right, I still got a lot to go. Check you crazy kids later!

Tickle Me Emo [Feb. 27th, 2007|02:26 pm]
Yes, I haven't posted in a while, because I barely have the energy to keep up with my MySpace blogs. So, in lieu of actual meaningful content, I offer unto you the following hilarity:
